Happy Sunday lovers ..
I’d like to take this time today to go down memory lane to when I started blogging full time in 2016. I love thinking back to when I started because it truly reminds me of the struggles and blessings I’ve had encountered to get where I am. It’s not easy to want something so bad and never truly knowing how hard it can actually be.
I share this with you all to encourage you that everything is possible when you believe in your purpose and more so in yourself.
So let’s go back for a second, in 2016 an opportunity came to me for Instagram post. At the moment any money was good money. I had just quit my job and I needed every little single penny that came my way.
I shared with the brand my fee, which was reasonable but they came back saying they only could pay me $85 dollars. For me it definitely did not work because $50 alone was for the photo shoot so in total I would make $15 dollars.
However, I said yes. I received the product and scheduled a shoot. I remember around that time I was going through a lot personally and financially. I was not in a good place to shoot but hey I already had committed. The shoot turned out to be pretty amazing, the client approved my work, and I was scheduled to post.
My first reaction was why post at 2pm as brand wanted me to? It’s going to be at my worst engagement time, but I was proven wrong. This picture had the most likes on my IG of all time and the most comments about 500 plus. I was in shock but at the same time very satisfied with my delivery.
I truly only got paid $15 but I managed to post something of good quality and the satisfaction was worth far more to me.
It came to my attention that the campaign was also offered to other bloggers and they received a much more significant budget. It upset me to know that I was not considered so highly but In the end I still delivered my best work like I always try to do. This is one of the reasons why I pay for my photos, because it’s always been about quality for me.
A few months later the brand reached out to my management company for another potential campaign and with a nicer budget that would not only pay for photos but I would get to enjoy and cover a few bills with. Shortly after about two more campaigns with them came within the same year and the year after.
That first campaign led to open up 6 other campaigns with the same brand. Their budget was amazing and it allowed me to know my worth in this industry. I’m proud of the decision I made of investing the money earned to reliever great quality. I could have easily taken a photo with my phone, kept the $50 and possibly never had another chance to work with them again. Give yourself and your work worth and quality, it’ll double your earnings if not triple. Invest.
I’m so glad I can share stories like this because it motives me to keep going especially this time around. I hope to inspire you to stop analyzing dollar bills and start analyzing how you are going to deliver your passion with quality. Money will follow, but first build yourself and your platform.
